SEE WHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING

Earlier this summer, Volvo debuted the all-new performance-focused 2012 S60 R-Design. Packing Volvo’s pinnacle T6 engine, the S60 R-Design is capable of pumping out a staggering 325 horsepower. The new model features interior enhancements such as sports seats and unique R-Design inspired details, refined exterior sport styling, and the improved handling of a specially engineered Sports Chassis.

In mid-August, more than 60 media representatives gathered in Napa Valley for an opportunity to drive — and write about — the 2012 Volvo S60 R-Design. Reviewers had the chance to experience the power and performance of one of the sportiest cars in Volvo’s model range, on the track, and on a select few of Northern California’s most scenic roadways.

Their jaws dropped and here’s what they had to say:

“Over the canyon roads coursing through California’s Napa Valley, the S60 R-Design is as smooth as the region’s famous vino. It’s fairly light on its feet for a two-ton sedan, and the steering has excellent oncenter feel and no slop.” – Car and Driver

“With its torque peaking between 3,000 rpm and 3,600 rpm, the R-Design feels pleasingly muscular on the road. In addition, the fast-spooling turbo and rapid-response six-speed Aisin-Warner transmission provide virtually instant reaction to a dig at the throttle. But despite the power and suspension upgrades, the Volvo remains decently refined on the road.” – Autoweek

“Dynamically, the changes sharpen the way the S60 responds but don’t make it feel nervous. At Thunderhill we found that the R-Design has heaps of grip, very little if any excess body motion, and a feel that’s nicely balanced (on the side of understeer) at the limit—all very useful attributes for quickly adjusting one’s line on Thunderhill’s two blind crests.” – Motor Authority

“While the S60 T6’s dynamic chassis offers a great combination of comfort and agility, the R-Design’s sport chassis officially puts the BMW 3-series on notice.” – Swedespeed.com
