Volvo K-Pax Racing Success

It’s been a big season for the Volvo/K-Pax racing team. With four recent top finishes, between a doubleheader race weekend at the Pirelli World Challenge at Mid-Ohio and the Cadillac Grand Prix of Sonoma, the Volvo/K-Pax team is poised to finish the season strong.

K-Pax drivers were hot on the track at the Pirelli World Challenge Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge in early August. Alex Figge brought home his first Pirelli World Challenge victory with a solid first place run driving the all-new S60 in the GT Class. Launching from the third starting position, Figge quickly jumped to first through the arc of the first turn. He went on to lead every lap of the race and take the checkered flag.

Figge said of the race, “The track was really greasy today from the combination of the heat and the rubber that the ALMS and IRL guys put down. That played right into the hands of our Volvo S60’s all-wheel drive. The car was fantastic and I have to thank all of the crew at K-PAX Racing for that. The amount of work that they did to get the cars ready for this weekend was epic and I’m glad I could reward them with the first win for the new S60.”

Next came a pair of wins in the Touring Class, with C30 drivers Robb Holland and Aaron Povoledo splitting the difference. In the first race, Povoledo narrowly avoided a stalled car at the beginning of the race and miraculously drove his way into a second place finish behind Holland. The results of the second race were swapped, with Holland taking second this time, just behind Povoledo.

“This was such a great day for Volvo and Volvo fans everywhere,” said Holland after the race. “I am so happy to be able to bring home this win for both the K-PAX Racing team and for Volvo. I can’t tell you how much hard work the crew has put in to making these Volvo C30s the best cars in the field. I’m glad I could reward all of their hard work and effort with a win!”

Povoledo kept his winning streak going at the Cadillac Grand Prix of Sonoma a few weeks later, with another Touring Class win in the C30. After 10 of the season’s 12 races, Povoledo is second in points behind Touring Class leader, Lawson Aschenbach. Volvo is second behind Honda in manufacturer’s points.
