Volvo employees across the U.S. are encouraged to take time to help out in their communities. That’s why so many of them participate in the Volvo Day of Service, which enables members of the Volvo team to take part in everything from neighborhood clean-ups to fundraising efforts. Recently, Tara King, Volvo Market Manager for the Carolina Region, shared her personal experience.
“On August 18th, the Durham Rescue Mission hosted their free, Annual Back to School Party and Backpack Give-Away,” she shared. During the event, Tara, her family, and a number of other volunteers pitched in so that deserving children were able to receive some much needed supplies. It seems the volunteers also managed to show the kids a heck of a good time while they were at it.
“We served hot dogs, drinks and gave away free clothing, free groceries, free backpacks and school supplies,” said Tara. In times that are difficult for so many, these basic items truly made a difference for those in attendance. As a result over 4,000 underprivileged children and their families got an especially good start on a new school year. No wonder heartfelt smiles were apparent throughout the entire day.
“It was truly a rewarding day for me and I’m sure, the many other volunteers that were there,” Tara explained. We salute the Durham Rescue Mission. The spirit of their annual event is truly something special. And we’re pleased that a Volvo employee took the initiative — and a Volvo Day of Service — to help make it a big success.
