One
ordinary afternoon, Laura Fairbank headed home from her job as a teacher's aid.
Not long after, her family learned how important it was that she had driven a Volvo.
"She started to turn left at an intersection as the traffic signal displayed a green arrow," explained her mother, Sally Fairbank. "Another driver, traveling about 50 miles per hour ran the red light and smashed into the left front of the Volvo at the driver's door." The tremendous force of the impact sent the 1995 850 driven by her daughter, Laura, into a massive tailspin until it finally stopped at the side of the road.
The
collision was so severe the Volvo was a total loss. "Laura miraculously escaped
the accident with only a few scrapes and bruises," shared her grateful mom. Witnesses
gathered around her daughter after the accident, amazed that she was barely injured.
"Your car saved you," they said.
According to the mechanic at the tow yard after the crash, the witnesses were correct. He told the family that no other car could have held up as well to such an impact. Then he informed the Fairbank family that their Volvo had been equipped with front and side airbags that had protected Laura — a fact they hadn't been aware of until that moment!
"I
just want to tell you how deeply grateful I am to the Volvo Company for the strong,
sturdy cars you make," wrote Mrs. Fairbank. "I'm convinced that Volvo saved our
daughter's life."
